February Recap and What’s Next

Doing the monthly recap of February seems to be the thing to do right now. So I might as well jump on the bandwagon here too.

Overall, February was a pretty good running month. I notched 166 miles, which was just shy of what I hit in January. For a shorter month, I’ll take it.

The one thing I didn’t like was that I hit the treadmill a total of five times. Far too many! But this winter has been terrible, and I needed some quality workouts away from the sloppy, snowy, and icy roads/trails. Even still, I found myself outside for two blizzard-esque longer runs.

In the month, I also hit up two races. The Steve Cullen 8k with the PRO guys, and the Cowtown just last weekend (how is it only last weekend?). Snagged a PR at one of the two, so I’ll count that as a win.

Cowtown was probably the highlight of February

So what’s coming up?

Miles. Lots and lots of miles.

But actually. This week will be my highest week of mileage in a long, long time. And it’s only going up from there. Long track workouts and double long runs are adding up. What do those double look like? I’ve got a 25, 20 at the end of this month (yes, the second 20 is on April 1, and no, it isn’t a joke). And another 20, 20 after that. I may die.

And speaking of death. Out of my next three major races, I’ve told a few people (jokingly) that two come with the threat of death. Let’s take a quick look at those three:

Music City Trail Ultra: I’m so jazzed for this 50k, and will be talking about it on here a ton in the coming weeks, since the race is on March 17. I’ll save my ramblings about this for another day, and leave you all with this picture (this is either Mile 1 or 15…can’t remember which hill it is):

The pain awaits in Nashville

Ice Age 50: The big one. The Goal Race. Can I finish 50 miles in one go? We’ll find out on May 12.

Copper Mountain 50k: This is another one I’ll be talking about quite a bit as we close in on July. Running up and down a mountain could be tricky since, you know, we don’t have mountains here in Illinois.

What kind of training and big races do you have coming up?
